New substation to be built in SOCAR Georgia Black Sea terminal in 2010

Wednesday, Mar 10, 2010

The construction of a 35-KV substation is underway at the Black Sea oil terminal of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Kulevi, from the terminal said.

Construction is carried out under a contract signed between the terminal and the Georgian Railways. Operations began in late 2009. The construction is split in two parts: 35/10 KV main power transformers and related equipment, 10/3.3 KV traction power transformers, including related modules and equipment.

The first part of the operations is carried out by Elektromontajservis and will be completed by April 2010.

The second part of the installation is ordered in Ukraine and will be delivered in April 2010. All operations on the construction of the substation should be completed by the end of 2010's third quarter.

The substation will ensure the supply of electricity for locomotives on the Kolkheti-Partotskali line. Currently, cisterns are delivered to the Kulevi station from the Chaladidi station, which is 20 kilometers away.

The terminal started operations in the summer of 2008 and its total capacity is 10 million tons of oil per year; including three million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel fuel and four million tons of fuel oil. The tank's total volume is 320,000 cubic meters and it is able to increase to 380,000 cubic meters.

The port has two berths to load petroleum products in tankers of up to 100,000 tons. Loading productivity ranges from 1,000 to 8,000 cubic meters per hour. There is also a railway station, which can accommodate up to 180 carriages and a railway trestle that can unload 168 carriages.
